DEGRP researchers convene to discuss impact of Covid-19 on Africa’s financial sector

On 26 May, the Evidence and Policy group convened DEGRP’s finance researchers, academics and representatives from DFID, IFC, UN’s Economic Commission for Africa, and other organisations working in the sector such as FSD Africa, FSD Kenya, Gatsby Africa, African Economic Research Consortium, and Prudential to discuss the implications of Covid-19 on Africa’s financial sector.
The discussion was chaired by Dirk Willem te Velde (EPG’s Innovation Technical lead) and featured contributions from DEGRP researchers Panicos Demetriades (Leicester University), Stephany Griffith-Jones (Columbia University), Thorsten Beck (Cass Business School), Victor Murinde (SOAS University of London), Peter Knaack (University of Oxford), and Judith Tyson (ODI/EPG’s Finance lead) to kick-start the conversation.
