Gender imbalance in Bangladesh’s Garment Sector

March 17, 2015

DEGRP-funded researchers based at the International Growth Centre have just released a policy brief summarising new evidence from a study into management practices and productivity in Bangladesh’s ready-made garment industry.

Key findings so far include the discovery that while four of every five production workers are female, only one in 20 supervisors is a woman. That is, 95% of the management talent comes from just 20% of the workforce.
